Beat ‘Corporate Shoe Syndrome’ with Carnation Tip Toes

CSS n. acronym. for Corporate Shoe Syndrome: a disorder of the foot created by stylish heels worn in a corporate environment, resulting in the total loss of comfort, footwear and style.

Corporate Shoe Syndrome (CSS) is a sad, painful reality for thousands of career women who have a penchant for stilettos. CSS sufferers are vulnerable to seduction by sky-high, spike-heeled shoes, which can lead to impulsive decisions and result in totally impractical corporate footwear purchases.

After several hours in the workplace, the searing agony of CSS takes hold. Sufferers are reduced to wandering the office barefoot or donning a pair of trainers that clash horribly with tailored pencil skirts.

It’s simply wrong to ask women everywhere to compromise their style, so experts at Carnation Footcare have devised a solution for CSS sufferers.

The brand new range of Carnation Tip Toes is designed to prevent high-heels rubbing, slipping and causing pain, allowing you to wear the highest and hippest heels all day long – throughout staff briefings, lunch meetings and even during the trek to and from work.

Carnation’s original Tip Toes Invisible Gel Pads, which stop the balls of your feet aching, are now joined by Invisible Gel Heel Shields, Invisible Gel Spots and Invisible Gel Strap Strips – all designed to prevent rubbing and pressure on different parts of your feet.

Easy to fit and made from a clear gel, Carnation Tip Toes are ultra slim and discreet.  Simply insert the appropriate product into your shoes, then put on your heels and hit the board room. The non-slip gel allows Tip Toes to stay firmly in place, so you can work all day long without swapping stylish heels for tasteless trainers.

The new Tip Toes Invisible Gel Heel Shields, Spots and Strap Strips are designed to be disposed of after several uses, however the original Gel Pads can be washed in warm soapy water and dried naturally, ready for another day at the office.

Power walking with Powerstep

Carnation PowerstepDuring a lifetime it is thought the average person, let alone an avid walker, walks enough steps to travel around the planet more than four times – approximately 115,000 miles!  Footcare should be a top priority for walkers and Carnation Powerstep Orthotic Insoles are a walking kit essential to help prevent injury.

Powerstep from Carnation is a unique podiatric support system designed to correct and stabilise foot alignment.  Powerstep aids foot posture and mechanics to help relieve heel and arch pain, as well as knee and lower back pain, and prevent injury.  This is particularly important when walking long distances.

Our feet were made to walk on earth, and the flexibility required for this means the foot has 26 bones, 19 muscles and over 100 ligaments.  So walking on hard, monotonous and inflexible surfaces, such as concrete, flattens the foot.  This is unnatural and causes aches and pains.

Carnation Footcare Podiatrist, Dave Wain, says, “Hard surfaces can cause more problems for people who excessively pronate (excessive rolling inwards of the feet).  Research indicates that up to 90% of the population excessively pronate, which causes arches to flatten, collapse and soft tissue to stretch abnormally, causing the joint surfaces to function at unnatural angles to each other.

At first this causes fatigue and strain on the arch, heel, ankle, knee and back, often resulting in great pain.  These problems are of even greater concern for long-distance walkers, but Powerstep can provide great relief.”

Excessive pronation will be diagnosed by a visit to a podiatrist but Dave Wain has some tell tale signs that you can check for yourself:

  1. Look at wear patterns on the bottom of your shoes, extreme wear on the balls of the feet especially towards the big toe area is often a sign.
  2. Place your shoes on a level surface and look at the heels at eye level, look for heels that tilt the shoes inwards.
  3. Stand barefoot with a mirror behind you, the Achilles tendons at the back of your heels should run straight in normal feet.  Also look at the bony prominence each side of your ankle.  They should look fairly equal, but if one side is more pronounced than the other this can be an indicator.

Dave Wain says, “By preventing excessive pronation with Powerstep, the likelihood of other related conditions such as bunions, corns and even ingrown toe nails occurring can be reduced.  Ensuring our feet are in tip top condition will make walking more pleasurable.”

Powerstep helps feet withstand the most gruelling of walks with a 4-part design, including:

  • A heel cradle and platform for stability
  • A prescription standard arch support
  • A unique double layer cushion casing
  • An anti-bacterial top layer to help prevent odours

Powerstep is available from www.firstaidfast.co.uk in S, M and L, priced £22.99.

Bursting to get together

Elizabeth has to prick her little boy with needles every day…

When my son, Matthew, was a baby, I noticed some small blisters on his feet, bottom and mouth.

‘I’m afraid Matthew has epidermolysis bullosa,’ the doctor explained to me and my husband, Alan, 45.

The skin condition made Matthew erupt in scarlet blisters all over his body. There was no cure – all we could do was manage the condition. Each day, we had to burst his blisters with a small hypodermic needle to stop them breaking naturally and getting infected. We gave him painkillers, but he still cried. It broke my heart, but we had to do it.

Changing his nappies was awful – they’d stick to him and pull off strips of skin. And when he walked, he’d sob in pain as the blisters between his legs rubbed together. A dermatologist suggested some special socks, called Carnation Silversocks, for Matthew to try. They kept his feet cooler and reduced the number of blisters, I just wish we could find a cure for the rest of his body but, until then, we’ll have to carry on bursting his blisters.

Matthew’s seven now, and determined not to let his skin get in the way of his fun.

Top 10 Footcare Tips From Carnation Footcare

  1. Strengthen your feet and toes by consciously straightening your toes, then wiggling them around.
  2. Increase foot flexibility by standing facing a wall about two feet away. Place one foot against the wall, 3-4 inches from the floor, keeping your heel on the floor.
  3. Gently move your knee towards the wall until you feel slight stretching. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat five times, and then do the same with the other foot.
  4. Stretch your heels by standing with your back to a wall with your feet shoulder width apart. Take a step forward and bend the front leg, keeping the back leg straight.
  5. Walk in sand whenever you have the opportunity, which both keeps feet smooth and gives them a thorough workout.
  6. Get rid of corns with Carnation Corn Caps.
  7. To improve circulation, line a basin with marbles and fill with cold water. Immerse your feet and move them over the marbles. Then give your feet a good rub and put on some warm socks.
  8. File away unsightly hard skin for silky smooth feet.
  9. For strong ankles do 20 ankle rotations per foot per day – ten in each direction. Make sure you keep your leg as still as possible, and rotate the foot from the ankle joint.
  10. Prevent and treat blisters with Carnation Hydrocolloid Blister Care Dressings.
  11. Whilst sitting, roll your feet backwards and forward over a tennis ball or a plastic bottle (filling it with sand helps). Concentrate on rolling on the arch of your feet.

Kylie Minogue named footsie queen

Kylie Minogue’s tiny size three feet are the sexiest in the world, according to a new UK survey.

The Carnation Footcare Footsie Index found that 15% of UK men would like to play footsie with the Aussie songstress – proving that, when it comes to women’s feet, smaller is better.

George Clooney walked away with the title of footsie king – 24% of women surveyed would like to tickle the American actor’s toes.

The YouGov survey asked more than 2000 UK residents which celebrity they would most like to play ‘footsie’ with – a way of discreetly flirting by gently stroking your foot against someone else’s.

America’s golden couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, nabbed both of the second spots with 13% and 10% of the vote, respectively, making them the most desirable duo.

That definitely wasn’t the case for one of Britain’s most well-known celebrity pairs: Katie Price (a.k.a. Jordan) came bottom of the ladies on 2%, and just 1% of women would play footsie with Peter Andre.

Pete Doherty and Conservative Party leader David Cameron are the least likely to have their feet fondled – both received no votes.

Kylie Minogue’s triumph in the Carnation Footcare Footsie Index probably comes as no surprise to her – in the past she has proclaimed her feet her greatest asset, saying many girlfriends have ‘cursed’ her about them… that’s not surprising considering feet tend to be one of the most neglected and unsightly body parts.

Carnation Footcare has a wide range of quality products to get your feet looking and feeling sexy, ready for a game of footsie. Try Carnation’s Cracked Heel Cream to rehydrate and smooth out rough heels and Carnation’s clinically proven Corn Caps, which will remove unsightly and painful corns in just 10 days.

Sock it to the wacky weather this summer

With the weather set to jump between highs of 100°F and torrential downpours this summer, you’re going to have to be on your toes when it comes to making sure your feet are prepared for anything thrown their way.

Carnation Footcare Silversocks are made with silver-coated fibres that act as a natural heat thermostat. Silver has the highest thermal conductivity of any metal and therefore helps to regulate the foot’s temperature, whatever the weather. The silver will not wash off, wear off or diminish in effectiveness over time so it will continue to keep your feet cool when it’s hot and warm when there’s an impromptu downpour…

When the weather’s at its sunny best, high temperatures can cause feet to sweat and smell but Silversocks allow for a greater amount of moisture to evaporate than ordinary socks, creating a drier foot environment.

Dave Wain, podiatrist at Carnation Footcare, says, “The feet contain approximately 250,000 sweat glands that excrete as much as half a pint of moisture a day.

“Moisture around the foot and the resultant odour can cause discomfort, especially when rushing around in hot weather and then sitting in close proximity to others. However, Carnation Silversocks help feet feel cool and fresh, and 99.9% of odour-causing bacteria is eliminated within one hour.”

The anti-microbial properties of Silversocks mean that over 400 types of odour-causing bacteria are erradicated and the remaining odour-causing elements cling naturally to the silver and are neutralised, instantly reducing smell.

So, with a forecast that can’t make up its mind this summer at least you can put your best foot forward at all times… just make sure you don’t forget your umbrella.

Carnation Silversocks retail at £5.99 including VAT and are available from our website www.firstaidfast.co.uk

Note: Diabetics and those worried about their feet should always take advice from their pharmacist, GP, or chiropodist.
